Wheelchair Access

Isle of Man Transport continues to invest in new buses which are accessible to disabled persons. Arrangements can be made for disabled travellers on the railways. Feel free to contact us prior to your journey to enquire about wheelchair access.

Buses

The majority of the bus fleet are now "kneeling" low-floor buses with ramps that can be used to allow wheelchair users to board or alight while remaining in their wheelchair. The step-entry buses in the fleet, which are not wheelchair friendly, are only used in emergencies or on local runs where another low-floor bus would follow soon after.

Railways

On the Steam Railway (between Douglas & Port Erin) wheelchair users can be accommodated in their chairs if they provide the relevant station with prior notice, preferably and least one day before travel.

On the Manx Electric Railway (between Douglas & Ramsey) wheelchair users can be accommodated in their chairs if they provide the relevant station with prior notice, preferably at least one day before travel. Accommodation can be provided on all services for a folded wheelchair but please note that access to trams is via steep, and often narrow, steps.

On the Snaefell Mountain Railway (between Laxey & Snaefell), due to the design of the tram, a wheelchair user cannot be accommodated in their chair and will be required to use a tram seat instead. The wheelchair can however be carried along in the tram but please note that access to the Snaefell trams is via steep and narrow steps.
